After getting a chance to fight in Strikeforce’s final event, Nandor Guelmino will have another fight in the UFC. Guelmino’s management and the Austrian heavyweight himself informed Groundandpound.de about the news.
“I was so happy to hear that I’ll get a fight in the UFC to prove my skills,” Guelmino told Groundandpound.de. “I know one thing for sure: No matter who my next opponent will be, I need to win. My goal is to make my fans happy again with spectacular fights.”
Guelmino lost to MMA veteran Josh Barnett at Strikeforce’s final event on January 12th, 2013 after finding himself in an arm triangle choke in the first round.
“Josh Barnett was a difficult opponent,” Guelmino said. “I think one more fight is fair and I really appreciate the UFC’s decision. I don’t feel more pressure thinking about a UFC fight, because I know that my next opponent can’t be more challenging than Josh Barnett! (laughs)”
The World Freefight Challenge heavyweight champion will be the first Austrian fighter stepping into the UFC’s octagon. An opponent and a date for Nandor's first UFC fight is yet to be determined.
